With an ambitious plan to spend a couple of nights in Menemsha pond, Martha's Vineyard, I got the boat ready to go... unfortunately my daughter had to spend the morning helping out at the shoe store... so we didn't get aboard til the afternoon.. we made what we thought was a seamanlike decision by laying over at Cutty Hunk island, at the tip of the Elizabeth Islands of the Western tip of Cape Cod.
There was not much wind on the way there on Saturday, and even less on the return on Monday... but Sunday served up gust to 27 kts and a 14 hour spell on the hobby horse from hell... thank God the anchor held. In the end, we were the only boats on an anchor by the end of the day.
After a lovely meal on quiet waters under a spectacular full moon, and after being up since 4 am, I found total peace with the Gods of Sleep, despite the full moon shining into the cabin like a streetlight outside and apartment.
That didn't last long.. I heard the wind howling at 2:26 am... big boats were waying anchor and heading out.... they probably had more crew on board than my boat witha a dog and a sleepy thirteen year old. The video shows the seas the next morning...
